China Leader with a Page on Facebook

Prime Minister Wen Jiabao, also known as “Grandpa Wen”, has joined the online social networking world through a page on Facebook having over 13,000 supporters.

The page seems to have been put up recently but it’s not clear whether Wen made it himself; perhaps another government official or someone not related to the prime minister. It reflects the popularity of Wen who became the face of China’s grief as he flew to Sichuan province only hours after the May 12 earthquake and traveled all the way through the hardest-reached towns to express sympathy to the victims.

Being one of hundreds of politicians with Facebook pages that are ranked by their number of supporters, Wen ranked 12th, lagging behind Barrack Obama and Arnold Schwarzenegger but far ahead Hugo Chavez, Ronald Reagan, and Princess Diana.
